Archimedes LoD

Another electric Archimedes from the 1930s - now rather on the other side of the spectrum. Model L was the successor to models G and H, and incorporated automatic division (with carriage position pre-selection), but not the complicated one-keyboard automatic multiplication (This was reserved for the model M). You could buy all kinds of modular add-ons, such as the "S" (printer) or the "vM" (an extra "outboard" multiplication keyboard for automatic multiplications). The LK machine had automatic division without the pre-selection function. This machine, however, is even more simple - it is electric, and has, like all L's a new system for automatic clearing for the carriage, as well as electric carriage movement - but there is no automatic division or even stop division at all (LoD presumably means "L ohne Division")

Archimedes has done away with the heavy cast baseplate, and the machine is now hung off aluminium sideframes connected by round bars. The motor also runs appreciably faster than in the model G, which makes the correct result in a division or multiplication a bit harder to aim for at full speed ... as well as making the carriage movement a bit hit and miss ...lingering too long on the carriage shift knob will shift the carriage two places instead of one.

The serial number in on the motor: 14060

And finally a asize comparison between the 'small' GEMRZ14 and the LoD14

To end with, a video of the machine being run through its paces. (The clearing is still a little sticky now and then, necessitating several tries)
