Multifix

S/N 64014 Miniature (1.6 kg) Norwegian geared sector calculator. It has a pull-crank, which oscillates between two extreme positions in order to do operations and clear various registers. Operating the machine requires a little study, as there are a rather large and unusual number of levers everywhere. For this reason, the manual, translated from French, is here. With thanks to W.J. Wang. This is the EI model, without back-transfer.

If the Multifix were a penguin, these would be its Happy Feet!

I've since bought an EIR model as well (with back-transfer) from France. What is interesting is that the Société Dactylo, which were the only distributors for France, were at 9 Rue Chateaudun. The whole story of mechanical calculators started at 44 Rue Chateaudun, which is where C.X. de Thomas' workshop making the first arithmometers in 1820 was located.
